Brand identity

Brand identity for Toyota Motor in Europe and Russia. Launched in 2009 and rolled out across 27 countries. Designed at Greenspace.

A grouping system was created by Toyota to cater for their diverse product range. Car models were grouped by characteristics to create a common experience. The identity was designed giving each product group its own colour palette, texture, photographic style and colour treatment while maintaining a consistent look and feel for the brand.

 The core brand assets (typeface and framework) combined with the group colour palette, texture and photographic style to create the group look and feel. This simple equation was used across all product groups.  A bespoke Toyota typeface family was designed in collaboration with type design studio Dalton Maag, subtly evoking Toyota’s Japanese heritage. It was published in two display formats and four text formats in full Latin, Greek and Cyrillic character sets.
